Excite Night: Kennedy Cougars Take On Liberty Lightning

The Kennedy sophomore Boys’ Basketball Team squeaked out the win on Tues Feb 4 against the sophomore Iowa City Liberty Lightning. 

Throughout the entirety of the game, the score remained close. Both teams traded the lead, and the end of this match left viewers in disbelief.  

Nearing the end of this game, in the fourth quarter with three minutes left, the score was even at 52 points each. Craigeory Mills, so., fought for rebounds and second-chance points. His contribution of 13 points played a vital role in the victory for the Cougars.

With only ten seconds left, Jackson Bowman’s, so., free throw left Kennedy in the lead by 2 points. The score was 64 – 62 Kennedy. 

Iowa City Liberty, feeling the restraints of time, drove to the basket and drew Kennedy to foul on the lay-up attempt. This provided the opportunity for the Lightning Bolts to tie the game. With only 2 seconds remaining, Iowa City Liberty’s Griffin Craft, so., connected on the first free throw.

On his next attempt, the shot missed, and every player on the floor scrambled for the loose rebound. At the buzzer, Iowa City Liberty managed to release a three-point shot that missed the mark.

Kennedy won the game 64 – 63. The Kennedy Sophomore Boys’ will tip off next against Iowa City West on Fri, Feb 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Kennedy.
