Senior Morgan Hospodarsky takes the track by storm. The senior has gone to state and attended the Drake Relays for the last three years. She hopes to qualify again this year with the 100-meter dash as her ticket in.
Hospodarsky rapidly shaved off time starting freshman year, with a 13.13, progressing to 12.57 in sophomore year, and finishing junior year with 12.20. Her determination and drive carry her on the track.
“I get it from trying to be better than I was last year and continuing to set higher goals and expectations,” said Hospodarsky.
She holds the record for the third fastest 100-meter time in Kennedy’s history, being 12.20 as of junior year. Her current best sits at 12.80 for the season, but meets have been limited due to weather cancellations.
Running is found in the whole Hospodarsky family, especially her dad. Running annual marathons became a tradition that sparked Hospodarsky’s passion.
“I got into track because my dad has always been a big runner, and he inspired me to run,” Hospodarsky said. “I did a lot of Turkey Trots with him and my family, and I would go run little parts of marathons with him.”
Hospodarsky has created a legacy for herself at Kennedy. Along with the mark she will leave on the program, Hospodarsky has created long lasting memories. Her favorite memories stem from her first year in the program.
“My best memory of Kennedy Track would be my whole freshman year, going to Drake and state, with all the big achievements,” Hospodarsky said. “I would also say all the friends and memories I have made in the last four years.”
Both of the relays Hospodarsky ran in at state ranked in the Iowa High School Outdoor Rankings. With her 4×200 #29 overall and 4×100 #49 overall, being 12.35.
“My biggest goal this year is to place higher at state than last year,” Hospodarsky said.
Her last track meet, set for May 21-23, will determine her outcome for her state qualification.
