Theater department prepares for Playtime Poppy

By Jason Grobstich

Playtime Poppy’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is set for the Kennedy stage on Dec. 1-3. The plot of the play involves of a group of rotten kids who end up as the stars of their church’s yearly Christmas pageant.

Harvey, a comedy, will follow on Kennedy’s black box stage in February, and the finale musical Fame will be performed in April.

“The talent here is amazing,” director Nick Hayes said of Kennedy students. “It’s such a diverse group of people, people who can sing, dance, and improv on stage.”

Hayes said the shows each present different challenges for the casts, crew, and directors. “I’m focused on ‘Harvey’ right now,” he said.

Shane Nielsen, sr., who just wrapped up his participation in Seussical the Musical, said he wanted to get involved with school theatre after he saw Little Shop of Horrors performed his freshman year. “I knew I wanted to be like the kids in that show,” Neilson said.
