
On Oct. 23, the Kennedy Varsity Volleyball team travelled to Waterloo West High School to face off against the Wahawks for a second consecutive match this season. In tournament play, on Oct. 14, the Cougars beat the Wahawks 2-1 on their home court. This week they toppled the Wahawks once more with a 3-2 finish in the 5A region 6 substate semifinal.
Junior Charley Lovell led the Cougars in assists with 25, while Junior Kaycee Cory followed up with a 23. Junior Skyylan Ousley had a season best with 14 kills in one game The Cougars were in a three way tie for blocking leaders with sophomore Keira Mueller, Junior Addy Phillips and Junior Kaycee Cory, all having 5. Sophomore Dylan Amling anchored the defense with a team high 21 digs.
The Cougars will travel to Ankeny on Tuesday, Oct. 28 to face off against the #5 ranked team in 5A, the Ankeny Hawks. This will be the cougars first return to the substate championship since the 2022-2023 season, in which they lost to the Waukee Northwest Wolves. If they beat Ankeny, they will move on to the state tournament for the first time in 10 years.
