Kennedy High School’s homecoming week is coming to an end. One stand out event is the Senior vs. Junior PowderPuff game. This year, the Juniors took home the win with a 28-21 score.
The annual powderpuff game is a flag football competition between the senior and junior classes. Teams play, while the Varsity football boys coach. The coaches give players different plays to run, along with tactics that might give them an upper hand.
“It is the most fun event of the week,” Senior player Kayla Langerman said. “Like genuinely nothing could beat this night. I wish it was year round.”
Each half of the game is 25 minutes, only stopping if the offense is running the ball. This allows time for both teams to score a touchdown. This year, after the first half, the Juniors were up 14-0.
“After I got my touchdown it was so exciting everyone was jumping up and down, and it was just really exciting,” Junior player Maddie Kray said. “It was a really fun thing to do with all of my friends.”
This year’s seniors were very confident going into the game, but after the loss, there wasn’t much to say.
“No comment,” Langerman said.
Even though the competition can be very high when the game is going on, both sides of the field are supportive of one another. This year, Charley Lovell won MVP for the Junior class.
“It was really fun being the MVP, I really loved my notecard award. I wasn’t really expecting it,” Lovell said. “It felt great to beat the seniors, I didn’t think we were going to win because they were lowkey glazed, but we did and I was really proud of us.”
This event is an exciting tradition people look forward to, there are a lot of nerves going into it. The coaches do their best to calm the nerves by preparing the players for the game to come.
“I feel like the coaches helped a lot more this year than last year. They were a lot more involved and we got to learn actual plays,” Senior Emerson Blocker said. “But still going into the game I felt nervous. It almost felt like I was about to run my four by four.”
The Juniors won and are already plotting for next year..
“We are going to absolutely destroy the current sophomores next year,” Lovell said. “They got it coming, they better watch out.”
