Model UN is a club at Kennedy that has risen and fallen in popularity since 1990 and was completely rebooted for the 2024-25 school year. It’s a club where students come together to learn about what goes on in the United Nations and how to tackle world issues and foster diplomacy, all through simulations of what is currently going on diplomatically around the world.
It lets students experience what it’s like to be a part of a UN meeting by doing their own research and deciding how best to solve the problems they are presented with.
“This club is about doing simulations of what actually takes place in the United Nations,”club sponsor Jill Koch said. “Countries come together to look at problems against human rights and climate change and try to formulate and solve problems, bring resolution between countries.”
The club will also go to a Model UN Summit in Muscatine, Iowa on Jan. 29-30. Alongside 100s of other students from the U.S. and China, will meet and discuss current world issues.
“[I’d recommend this club to] anyone who is interested in current world issues, any kind of career or interest in global issues, policy, [or] activism.” club sponsor Heather Zwanziger said. “It’s pretty broad of who might be interested in Model UN.”
