Kennedy Boys Baseball has started off their 2023 season strong, being placed second in the Mississippi Valley division.

Kennedy teacher and Varsity Baseball Coach, Bret Hoyer, believes that the boys have a great team this year and hold high expectations for them.

“We are more consistent up and down,” said Hoyer. “This year’s team is very cohesive and more mature.”

The team has seven wins and three losses so far, tying with Linn-Mar in their division. Pre-season rankings from earlier this month had the team placed fifth in the state, though they have since moved up.

The team had a great start to the season, beating both Pleasent Valley and Ankeny in one weekend.

“What stands out is the mindset [the team] brings to practices they are working extremely hard to improve both now and in the offseason,” said Hoyer.

The regular season ends on July 3 at 11 a.m. and their final game can be watched right here at Kennedy. The full season schedule can be seen on Varsity Bound.

“The players set a goal of winning 30 games or more and advancing to the state tournament,” said Hoyer. “I feel like they will reach all of their goals because of how tight they are.”
