Kennedy’s first annual cornhole tournament will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the main gym.

Kennedy’s trap club is holding a cornhole tournament and silent auction. The competition will be held at 11 a.m. on March 25, in the main gym. Teams will be charged $40 to enter and can bid on auction and raffle items during the event. All proceeds from entry, concessions and the silent raffle will go toward the next trap season.

According to organizer Jamie Schuster, the club wanted to come up with a fundraiser that engages the community and raises money. The registration form can be found on the Kennedy Trap Facebook page or the announcements.

Awards will be given to the winning team and the first two runners-up. The winners will receive custom-designed bags and second and third place will be awarded prizes donated by local businesses.

“Not many people are aware Kennedy High School even has a trap club, so it’s a way to introduce the community to our sport while also engaging in an activity many people enjoy,” Schuster said.

The money raised will help the club ease the financial burden on its members and purchase needed equipment such as ammunition.

“Trap shooting is one of the fastest growing sports in America, but it is also one of the more expensive sports,” Schuster said, “Every entry fee collected will either be allocated to a specific student-athlete to help cover their dues for the season or will go into our general funds to help lower the cost of next year’s season.”
