Colin Flack at 160 lbs., Jordan Twitty at 220 lbs. and Asher Smith weighing in at 182 lbs. wrestled at the 2023 IHSSA’s state championship. The tournament took place at the Des Moines Wells Fargo Arena on Feb. 15-18. 

In his second championship round, Flack lost to Cinsere Clark from West Des Moines Valley, at 7-0. After winning five consolation rounds, Flack moved up to the semi-finals, allowing him to place sixth overall.

Twitty lost a championship round to Cohan Torres from North Polk and skipped his first consolation round, then lost to Xander Kenworthy from Ankeny Centennial High School.

Smith moved down to the second consolation round after losing to Linn-Mar’s Griffin Schultz.

“Our focus was to learn how to ‘out hustle everyone’,” wrestling coach Nicholas Leclere said. “We have many wrestlers who are now hungry to get better in the sport.”
