Photos: Varsity Football Claims 44-0 Win Over Davenport West

After a tough loss against Cedar Falls last week, the Kennedy Cougars have worked their way back on top earning a 44-0 win over then-undefeated Davenport West on Friday, Oct. 7. Junior Jacob Doyle contributed 95 rushing yards, sophomore Vinny Gianforte with 162 passing yards, junior Cyrus Courtney with 116 receiving yards and senior Andrew Meyers with nine total tackles.

The sophomore team set the tone for the evening following their 35-0 win earlier in the night, giving them an overall 4-2 record heading into the final weeks of their season. It was also a special night for the seniors in the marching band. The 25 seniors were recognized in between the sophomore and varsity games.

As the end of the regular season nears, the state playoffs and an opportunity to play in the University of Northern Iowa Dome approach.

“We [have to] focus on the next two weeks as of now to put ourselves in a good position for the postseason”, said football captain, senior Asher Smith. “The playoffs are really a new season and anything can happen, but you can expect us to return to the dome.”

The Cougars will make the trip to Johnston Friday, Oct. 14 for their last away game and will host Dubuque Hempstead next week on Thursday, Oct. 20 for the regular season closer and senior night.
