Originally two college students out of Drexler University in Philadelphia, Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege and Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Berksin have created one of the most creative hip-hop duos as of lately and are making noise in the hip-hop world with the release of their new album Breakfast.

What had started as a friendship and countless hours spent in the music production lab at Drexler, Chiddy and Xaphoon Jones together created Chiddy Bang; Chiddy as the main rapper in the group and Xaphoon Jones as the producer. In late 2008 Chiddy Bang started to create songs and post them online and after being noticed by several blogs, the group started to get acknowledgement in the online world of music.

In October 2009, Chiddy Bang released their first mixtape, The Swelly Express which featured hit song “Opposite of Adults”. After the release of their mixtape, the group was recognized for their upbeat sampling of popular alternative artists such as MGMT’s “Kids” on the song “Opposite of Adults”, Passion Pit’s Better Things on the song “Truth”, as well as Sufjan Steven’s Chicago on “All Things Go”. Soon after the release of The Swelly Express, Chiddy broke the world record for longest freestyle rap and as well as longest marathon rapping record.

After success of their track “Opposite of Adults”, the group signed to major label EMI/Parlophone and continued to release music. After being signed the group headed on the Swelly Life Tour with rappers Donnis and XV as well as being performers for music festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Bamboozle, and Electric Forest.

In October 2010, they released their EP, Chiddy Bang: The Preview. Almost a year later in summer of 2011, they released their third mixtape Peanut Butter and Swelly and announced that a full-length album would be soon to follow.

The first single of their album Breakfast was “Mind Your Manners” which featured Icona Pop and was released in the late summer of 2011. The announcement of their first album Breakfast, made multiple twitter trends in early November, which was supposed to be the original release date but fell short and instead released the second single “Ray Charles.”

After two delays of the album, it was finally released on Feb. 21  in the United States, after originally slated for a Feb. 28  release. After the tweet by the group “#breakfast is supposed to be served early and were only a couple hrs away now!” on February 20, the album quickly hit the number one spot on iTunes’s hip-hop section. Their album “Breakfast” features their third hit single “Handclaps & Guitars”. With the album announcement of the album release, the group also announced a follow-up mix-tape, Grab a Plate which was suppose to be a promotional mixtape for the album, but will now follow the album.

One of the most unique elements of the group is their production of instrumentals by Xaphoon Jones, as they feature samples from alternative artists as well as incorporate a “spacey” and “old-school” sound that make their music incredibly unique. The group also works with a lot of upcoming artists in multiple genres.

The group Chiddy Bang has progressed in the past four years through the release of one album, one EP, and three mixtapes. With the release of the mix-tape Grab a Plate, expected to be released only a few weeks after an album, Chiddy Bang have no intentions of slowing down anytime soon.
