Learn how to Register for the Upcoming Election

Many people wait their whole life for this, to get in the car and drive over to their designated voting location. They casually walk inside and fill out one important piece of paper for the first time in their life. Okay maybe this is not the case for you, but that doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t vote.

Attention Kennedy seniors or anyone over the age of 18: the time to register to vote is here. The pre-registration deadline for the 2018 general election is Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.  People may register and vote after that date, following election day registration procedures.

You may register to vote if you are a U.S citizen, resident of Iowa,  at least 17.5 years old( must be 18 years old by election date), and have not been convicted of a felony or have had your voting right restored.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on the process:

Step 1: Access the internet on an electronic device. This can be computers, phones, tablets, etc.

Step 2: Type this URL in and go to the site. The URL is sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterinformation

Step 3: Check if you meet the criteria in order to vote. (Look in story above) or at http://sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterinformation

Step 4: Click on online voter registration and fill out your information. Note you will need your drivers license and social security number. You will also be asked to identify your political party. Once done filling this out click submit.

Step 5: After submitting your information, you will reach a page that says complete and ask you for you email address to confirm. Type in your email address.

Step 6: Login to your email and look for an email that says, “Online Voter Registration Confirmation.”

Step 7: If the conformation is in your inbox your voter registration is complete. Another way to check is https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterreg/regtovote/search.aspx
