Magic will be in the air as the Tim Tebow Foundation and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church host the Night to Shine event on Friday, Feb. 9. High school students with special needs can celebrate an unforgettable night as they get pampered, dress up, and dance to their hearts’ content.

The event will be held at the Ashton Hill Farm, and volunteers will be needed from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Volunteers are required to be 16 years or older, unless they are signing up for a paparazzi spot, which requires volunteers to be 14 years or older.

Senior Maddy Holmstedt who plans on attending the event says that she thinks the dance is a great thing for anyone who wants to volunteer.

“It’s a great way to get to know everyone and I really would encourage anyone to do it,” Holmstedt said.

Senior Shelby Cook, who has been a part of Best Buddies for three years is also planning on attending the event with her buddy.

“I think it’s really important to not just have people from Best Buddies attending so it feels more real,” Cook said, “and the people in the program can have interactions with people outside of the program.”

Special Education teacher Mary Gibney says that she opened up the event to Best Buddies and encouraged the students to go and volunteer as buddies.

“Some students are hesitant to sign up because it’s the first time and the event requires students to attend one training session because the Tim Tebow Foundation is looking for the best of the best.” Gibney said.

Training sessions can be attended on Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Antioch Church, or Feb. 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at either St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or Antioch Church.

Students interested in attending the Night to Shine event as a volunteer can either sign up in the main office, or register online right here.
