Swimalicious is only one word to describe the Kennedy women’s swimming and diving team.

The Kennedy swim team started practices on Aug. 7 and have been working hard ever since. With two practices a day, four times a week, swimmers have to balance swimming, school work and other clubs and activities into their day.

“Before practices started in August I was expecting them to be difficult, but I learned it’s a lot more of a challenge than I expected,” Jordyn Cory, fr., said. Cory has been practicing and competing in varsity events and has really enjoyed hanging out with her teammates outside of the pool.

The team won their first meet against Dubuque Senior and won a close meet against Linn Mar. Then they lost to Dubuque Wahlert, Pleasant Valley and Iowa City West.

“The season is going really well. We have had tough competition, but we will continue to get stronger and faster throughout the season,” Maddie Prull, jr., said.

Last Saturday, Sept. 16, was varsity and diving’s first Invitational of the season held at Mercer Park Aquatic Center in Iowa City. They competed against eight other teams, including Ankeny, Bettendorf, Cedar Falls, Iowa City High, Iowa City West, Muscatine and West Des Moines Valley placing fourth.

“We spend over 25 hours each week together in the pool, but yet we still hang out with each other outside of swimming. It shows how well we get along,” Maddie Gannon, so., said.
