Kennedy Girl’s Kick Off the State Meet
Kennedy Wrestler senior Jacie Bedell, faced off against Maeley Elsbury from South Tama in the 135 weight class at the first sanctioned girls state tournament. The tournament takes place Thursday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 3 at the Extreme Arena in Coralville, IA.
Bedell, with a record of 17-10, was pinned by Elsbury, with a record of 60-14, at 1:34. Elsbury’s win adds to her record of 46 pins. Bedell will wrestle Mackenzie Bachman from Monona whose current record is 17 – 12 later today.
Sophomore Ella Brown, with a current record of 34 -10, wrestled Grace Fort from Wayland, with a current record of 19-23. Brown won by a pin against Fort in 1:07 in the first period. This is Brown’s first girl’s state tournament since she began wrestling in fourth grade.
Both athletes wrestle again on Thursday, Feb. 2.
