The Kennedy Theater Department is ending their 2022-2023 school year with a production of Chicago. The Broadway musical is based on a play of the same title from 1996. It first premiered on Broadway in 1975 and continued for 936 performances.

Chicago follows a collection of murders in the 1920’s jazz era. The overall theme concerns corruption in major cities.

Kennedy will host auditions in the auditorium after school on Tuesday, Jan. 31 and Wednesday, Feb. 1. An audition clinic will be hosted on Monday Jan. 30 after school for students to learn the dance and songs. Sign up for both on the theater board next to room 128.

“Auditions are my favorite part of the theater process,” said drama director Nick Hayes. “They’re an opportunity for me to watch students push themselves to do a very scary thing…I always look forward to auditions.”

Practices start on Friday, Feb. 3 and performances will be from Thursday, April 20 to Saturday, April 22 with four shows in total. Contact Hayes in room 262 or by email for questions or extra help before auditions.
