Kennedy Boys’ Basketball Advances in the State Tournament

Wednesday, March 9, the Kennedy Boys’ Basketball team faced the Waukee Wolves in the first round of the state tournament. Due to their win with a score of 61-55, the basketball team plays in the next round of the tournament on March 10 at 5:30 pm against Ames at the Des Moines Wells Fargo center.

Juniors Kenzie Reed and Colby Dolphin led the team in points with five points each. While sophomore Cyrus Courtney and senior Craigeory Mills each had two points. Kennedy ended the first quarter in the lead, with a score of 17-15. Waukee tied the game 26-26 at half time. 

During the third quarter, Kennedy regained the lead with a score of 39-35. With four minutes and 52 seconds left in the game, Reed made a three pointer which caused the score to become 44-39. With four minutes and three seconds left in the fourth quarter Dolphin increased the lead, changing the score again to 46-39.

Waukee player Dylan Jones made a basket and brought the score to 46-41. However, with two minutes and 23 seconds left in the game senior Jackson Bowman scored another two points bringing the score to 50-43. Dolphin then had two free throws which brought the score to 57-51. Kennedy worked hard and ended the game in the lead with a score of 61-55.
