COVID-19 is threatening Kennedy pep assemblies for the 2021-2022 school year

The Kennedy pep assembly scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 2 was postponed due to school-related COVID-19 concerns.

Linn County Public Health (LCPH) sent a letter to schools Aug. 28 recommending further precautions against COVID-19 after a local surge in cases. According to the letter, staff and students are encouraged to wear a mask whether or not they’re vaccinated. The letter also recommended social distancing, staying home while sick and getting vaccinated if eligible.

Principal Jason Kline announced the decision to cancel the pep assembly Monday, Aug. 30. Kline suggested the assembly could be outdoors sometime in the future. No date for a make-up assembly was given.

Kline has confirmed two cases of COVID-19 via email at Kennedy as of Aug. 31, the seventh day of school.

The most recent Kennedy pep assembly was in December 2019.
