Torch receives Gallup award
September 7, 2014
Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists has awarded the Gallup award to the 2013-14 Kennedy Torch. This is a very prestigious award that was given to only 26 newspapers and news magazines.
According to the Quill and Scroll website, “the award is given only to those publications that have achieved and sustained excellence.”
This award was given for the work achieved during the 2013-2014 school year, under the leadership of Bailey Zapitul, Alli Nemecek, Amy Brause, Norm Althoff, and Ethan Divis.
Earning recognition as a Gallup publication is a special honor for high school programs “as this award recognizes our students’ behind-the-scenes learning, leadership, and teamwork as much as their finished products,” Torch adviser Stacy Haynes-Moore said.
The Torch serves as a public forum for Kennedy High School and its student journalists publish a newsmagazine, web site, and social media.
