Starting the wrap up of an almost year long season, Kennedy High School Dance Team went to Minneapolis, MN. on Jan. 12 for regionals.
The girls performed twice while they were there, but they still were able to spend some time together enjoying the city.
“We went to the Mall of America and shopped, and went out to dinner at the Rainforest Cafe because it is a dance team tradition,” McKenna Schares, so., said.
Over the weekend, the team placed second in poms and fourth in jazz and took home two trophies.
“The girls did really well at regionals, they took every adversity and rolled with it and pumped each other up,” Miranda Arends, dance team coach, said.
Auditions for the team were in April of last year and their first practice was in May. The dancers did summer camps and have worked very hard throughout the season. The 2012-2013 season will be wrapped up on Tuesday, February 12 when they will do their last performance on Boy’s Basketball’s senior night.
Although, some members left the team during the season, the girls managed to stay strong in all their competitions.
“The season went really well but we were faced with quite a few challenges with people who did not want to stay with the commitment and they quit,” Arends said.
“I would say the season went really well considering we had a couple mishaps throughout the year and lost a lot of people,” Krista Nelson, sr., said.
At dance competitions, the girls go up against teams from other schools that have several more people than they do, because the competitions go based off of how many people attend your school, not how many girls are on the team. Kennedy Dance Team still held their ground doing an overall great job this season.
“I thought it was a really good season, I had a lot of fun and we did well at all of our competitions.” Schares said.
