The Kennedy Key Club is a charity club that meets every other Wednesday to discuss and plan how to help the students within the Kennedy community.
Key Club is an international organization that helps with charity projects, from small things like writing letters to a pen pal from an elementary school, to the bigger projects like organizing books and food or gift drives to people in need. Key Clubs around the country find ways to help the people around them.
In Kennedy’s Key Club, members are divided into three different groups, or as they call them, the three committees. They are the Outreach, Event and Fundraising committees. All of them work together to create new ideas to support the community.
“The club is quite fun and has something for everyone, whether you like design, planning, going to events, or even just talking to people there is something to enjoy.” President of Key Clubenior Tori Paga said.
The Kennedy Key Club volunteers at charity events like the Best Buddies Dance where they help hand out food, or hand out clothes to people in need at drives, anything they can do to help the people around them.
“My favorite part about the club is how it connects our high school to the community and introduces people who otherwise might not have met!” Paga said.
There are roughly 60 members of Kennedy’s Key Club who meet every other Wednesday, but they are only required to be there once a month. To be admitted into the club members are required to pay a ten dollar fee at the beginning of the year. The members will only get the money back if they complete everything required for the club. To succeed in Key Club you must do at least 10 hours of charity work per semester.
“What we do directly impacts the lives of community members.” Head director Mrs. Crowell said.“What we do brings them joy and serves them in a way that benefits their everyday life.”
