At the recent Marching Arts competition held at Roosevelt Kennedy’s Winter Guard team secured a third-place finish. On March 29th, they will embark on another competition once again in Waukee.
This activity combines the art of color guard and marching band, to create a dance with rhythmic pom-poms and graceful movements using flags and rifles. Throughout the winter months, the Winter Guard team performs a diverse array of drills and formations, all while embodying the essence of the season.
“ Our winter guard team represents friendship,” sophomore Lilleah Bailey said.“As a group we work hard together to portray a specific emotion to our show and I’m proud of the team for portraying their performance to their best ability.”
Each move and musical composition is crafted to capture the essence of winter and represents the months and season of the year.
“ Winter guard is an amazing space to collaborate and enjoy each other’s presence. “ Bailey said.
The team has a few weeks to prepare for their next event and competition at Waukee.
“ Placing 3rd at Roosevelt was great,” Bailey said. “I felt good about our show while performing it and afterwards.“
