On Feb. 18 bowling state qualifiers were held for the 3A conference in Marshalltown. Kennedy came out with four individuals qualifying for the state tournament. The state bowling tournament will be held at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo from Feb. 24 through Feb. 26.

The Kennedy Boys Bowling Team went 2-7 through the regular season with wins against Xavier and at the MVC divisional meet. At the state qualifiers, freshman Kinnick Robinson and junior Nick Deeds individually qualified for the state tournament. Robinson scored a perfect 300 in one of his matches and punched his ticket to state after only one season at Kennedy.

“It felt great to qualify as a freshman, it just shows that I might be one of the younger people bowling but I can beat anyone out there,” Robinson said. “It felt electric and amazing to shoot my first ever sanctioned 300 because it gave me a confidence boost and I got to do it for my family and friends that were supporting me.”

The Kennedy Girls Bowling Team went 9-1 on the regular season with their only loss being against Dubuque Senior. At the state qualifying meet, junior Elaina Chesmore and junior Kaiya Gralund both punched their ticket to the tournament as individuals.

“It felt great to qualify for state this year,” Chesmore said. “I felt like I had a lot more weight on my shoulders since I made it last year which made the feeling of making it much more meaningful this year since I get to do it again.”
