The Kennedy Sophomore Boys Basketball Team is looking to continue a strong season under Head Coach Tony Vis.
The Cougars currently have a win-loss record of 11-2 and the team is maintaining growth mindsets as they progress through the season.
“We strive to become better than the day before, wanting to be the best,” sophomore guard Lawson Neighbor said. “We are working harder and harder pushing ourselves through the rough spots to get the good,”
Vis boasts a 73-8 record for the sophomore team over his past four seasons. Vis and the Cougars lead the MVC over these four seasons with a conference record of 53-6.
“Coach Vis keeps us disciplined in practice. Every drill we do has meaning. It’s all to get us ready for game time situations,” sophomore forward Dylan Batten said.
The Cougars have outscored opponents with a cumulative point differential of +335 this season, with their most recent win against the Jefferson J-Hawks being a 46 point blowout win. They will travel three more times this season, with the farthest being Western Dubuque.
The Cougars have lost twice this season in Cedar Falls, and at Des Moines Roosevelt. They remain undefeated at home this season. The last time the sophomore boys basketball team lost a game at Kennedy was Dec. 16, 2023.
“Kennedy basketball has a strong culture behind it, we all want to win,” Batten said.
The Cougars have played 13 out of their 21 games this season. Through the first half of the season, with a record of 11-2, It is the Cougars worst start in the past four seasons.
“Winning the rest of our games is the biggest goal of our team, we know we have the skill set and discipline to do it,” Neighbor said.
The Cougars face off against the Western Dubuque Wildcats in Dubuque on Jan. 28, 2025, where they will aim to continue their nine-game winning streak.
