Kennedy students were featured in Coe College’s first Crandic High School Art Show on Oct. 25 in the Sinclair Auditorium building.
Judges doled out awards for Best of Show, Honorable Mention and Merit Scholarship, giving students a professional-level opportunity to show their work. Only 10 pieces were allowed to be submitted from each high school.
“I think the judging opportunity is great! I’m always looking for new ways to improve my skills and this art show was an opportunity to learn and grow as an artist,” senior AP Studio Art student Maran Diederich said.
Different types of mediums and styles were used by art students to create their two-dimensional or three-dimensional pieces shown in the art show.
“The piece I submitted is called Blue Moon,” Diederich said. “I wanted to create an atmosphere that matched my sustained investigation from last year, which was daydreaming. I created it last year for my AP portfolio when I wanted to experiment more with acrylic gouache.”
Featured art students view the Crandic Art Show as an opportunity to see each other’s work and get feedback from professionals.
“I’m excited to get feedback and critiques from experienced adults. I was also looking forward to seeing other pieces that were submitted, I always love looking at other people’s art and what inspires them,” Diederich said.
Coming to Coe College’s art show provides a chance to see the hard work students in Kennedy’s art programs have put into their art. Junior Asher Meyers was awarded and Honorable Mention for their work.
Opening reception and awards were Oct. 25 in Sinclair Galleries in the lobby of the Sinclair Auditorium at, 1220 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA. The gallery is also open to spectators from Oct. 26 to Nov. 22, 4-6 p.m. daily and parking is encouraged on campus or directly in front of the school on 1st Ave NE.
