Halloween has arrived. With activities from pumpkin carving to Halloween parties, people struggle to brainstorm costume ideas that include trends of the season.

There are several categories of costumes, depending on who you will be with on the day of the occasion—individual, couple and group costumes. It can be helpful to have easy costumes to put together at the last minute.

“Since I am going to multiple different Halloween parties, I have several different costumes planned. First I am doing a couple costumes and second I am doing a group costume with my friends,” junior Kiri Platt said.

Group costumes include different characters or items that correlate with each other. This season expects to see a variety of cats, television show characters, heroes, princesses and more.

“My friends and I are doing teenage mutant ninja turtles. I’m excited, I think people will find it clever,” sophomore Lucy McCord said.

Trending costumes on social media for individuals include cheetahs, leopards, superheroes, princesses and different characters from television shows. Couples costumes fall along similar lines with Curious George and the Man in that Yellow Hat and, a deer and a hunter as two examples of some popular costumes. Group costumes tend to be people’s favorite category of costumes.

“A lot of people that I have talked to in my grade have told me they’re going as different types of animals,” sophomore Paige Mass said. “It’s pretty easy to put together an animal costume compared to any other ideas.”

The Internet has a wide variety of platforms, and content posted on the internet influences trends and fads. Since Halloween is close, it’s difficult to scroll on any social media platform without viewing any cats, old cartoon characters or other costume ideas. Social media is a great way for the uninspired to gain ideas for costumes.

“This is the best year yet for costumes, everything that I keep noticing online are all so perfect I don’t know which to choose from,” Platt said. “Some of the most popular group costumes I’ve noticed include princesses, old Disney characters and mermaids.”

Students seem excited for Halloween and as “Halloweekend” approaches, it might be easier to find costumes than you think.
