The Kennedy Marching Band traveled to the Starfest Band Festival held at Morningside University in Sioux City Iowa on Sept. 28 to receive unique comments and critique on their show “Shattered,” rather than traveling to Linn-Mar’s annual competition that the band has attended for years.

The marching band came prepared, arriving at the university around 2 p.m. to begin warming up for prelims, in which the band placed first overall in the 4A division.

Once sundown came, Kennedy marchers were off to line up on the off-side field for finals, fully dressed and tuned at 9 p.m. Last to perform but certainly not least, the band left with the first place trophy and awards for Best Drumline, Best Overall Visual Performance and Best Overall Music Performance., racking up a total of 829 points, 20 more than the second-highest placer.

The band ended the successful night on blow-up mattresses on a gym floor, set to return home the next day, but slept peacefully, basking in the glow of their win.
