Ariana Grande transformed from a child actor to a world-renowned artist in a matter of years. On March 8, 2024, Grande released Eternal Sunshine, covering her journey on her transition from a relationship with her former husband Dalton Gomez to finding new love in the midst of media controversy.
I’ve personally listened to Eternal Sunshine at least seven times since its release, not counting when the album’s songs show up individually on my playlists. This new album would have to be first runner-up in the ranking of my favorite Grande albums, following closely behind Thank u Next.
The album creates a sense of shock as she addresses the hate and controversy surrounding her. This approach makes this album her most played on her Spotify and is why we can’t be friends (wait for your love) hit number one on Billboard’s Top 100 list. Her listeners get to hear what she experienced from her past relationship with her ex-husband and how she moved on to someone her fans didn’t expect her to fall in love with.
Growing up, Grande was one of my favorite influencers and her music guided me to love that form of art. After hearing her voice her feelings about something the media didn’t know about, I am shocked and inspired by her choice of style and lyricism.
Her emotions were portrayed to me outside of the song as her intro (end of the world) was one of the best ways to start her album. It prepares listeners for the genre of the album and summarizes her feelings beforehand, providing an idea of what she’s been through.
The way the album progresses is a wonderful representation of storytelling. Eternal Sunshine tells her story in a beautiful way while still representing her and her music style. This album is a must listen too for both fans and non-Grande listeners.
