The Kennedy High School Performing Arts are hosting the Winter Showcase on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The annual fundraiser is meant to support Kennedy’s music programs and will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
“All the performing Arts students have devoted a lot of time for this event. We hope we get a good crowd to perform for,” sophomore orchestra member Abby Faughn said.
The event will feature all Kennedy jazz bands, concert bands, orchestras, choirs and jazz choirs. At the end of the show, there will be a combined piece with the choir, band and orchestra.
“This is a great opportunity to see what all of the Kennedy Music programs are up to,” orchestra director Joseph Mnayer said.
The performances include, the Kennedy Symphonic Band performing ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ and ‘The Great Locomotive Chase’. Jazz One plays ‘Tonight We Tango’ by Rick Hirsch and ‘Greensleeves’. Jazz 2 performs songs that include ‘Up on the HouseTop’, ‘Oh Little Town of Bethlehem’ and ‘Silent Night’. ‘Carol of the Bells’ and ‘Glow’ are performed by Kennedy’s Jazz Choir.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this concert and I hope we can show our skills. The directors have done a great job preparing us,” sophomore Symphonic Band member Ada Feit said.
Kennedy’s Symphony Orchestra will be playing an excerpt from Swan Lake and Silver Bells. One of the pieces performed by the Kennedy String Orchestra is Winter Lights.
“There will be good music and it will be fun for the performers. We really hope everyone who enjoys music can attend this event,” Faughn said.
Admission for the concert will be $5 per person and can be bought here.
“This will be a fun night with a lot of cool music! Please join the Kennedy Music Department for our Winter Showcase,” Mnayer said.
