The annual Cocoa and Carols concert is this Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 and 4 p.m. Each performance will host different middle schools and elementary schools with Taft, Hiawatha and Franklin performing at the 1 p.m. show along with Harding and Pierce at 4 p.m.
This year, Happiness Inc.’s show is based around theater camp. Including songs like “Camp Isn’t Home” by James McAlister and Mark Sonnenblick, “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and “Welcome to the Show” by Britt Nicole.
“The show choir season is long,” Happiness Inc. Director Storm Ziegler said. “Nothing excites the kids more than performing on a stage.”
Happiness Inc. started rehearsing in August and has been perfecting and cleaning the performance ever since.
“I think we have a group full of hard workers and that will only push us towards where we need to be,” senior and dance captain Raiya Hurt said. “Overall I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve already done.”
Protégé’s theme is MTV 80s. Their show includes the songs “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, “Living On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi and “Bad” by Michael Jackson
With all of the new faces in both choirs this year filling in the spots left open by last year’s graduating class, the choir is making progress with all of the student’s dedication.
“We started the year off slow as we have lots of kids that have never done show choir before,” Protégé Director Ann Brunson said. “We have made a lot of strides in this past week and I feel we are more on track where we should be at this time in the season.”
Protégé continues to get ready for Cocoa and Carols and will be performing their opener.
“I think the group is doing okay, but we have much to improve,” sophomore dance captain Emma Grantham said. “If everyone practices, asks for help and does their best we will be ready for competitions.”
