Class of 2025, put away your pencils and pull out your Chromebooks. On Jan. 25, 2022, the College Board released a statement that the class of 2025 will be the first class in the U.S. to take the online SAT.

The test will be taken online nationwide and students will get results 13 days after their test. The SAT will now be done through adaptive testing, meaning it will change the difficulty of the questions as you progress. Reading passages will also be cut down in length and the test will be shortened from three hours to two.

Students will still be supervised while taking the test at a testing site. The College Board reported that students who took the pilot test reported it to be 80% less stressful than the standard pencil and paper test and 100% of administrators reported it to be a positive change.
