Making School History: MVC Champions
February 15, 2019
The Varsity Wrestling team recently placed first out of 16 schools in the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Tournament held at Iowa City West High School. They not only beat multiple teams ranked above them, but also made school history. They finished with a score of 221, which was 36 points ahead of the runner-up, Prairie High School.
“It was fun to see everything come together knowing how hard they have been working, as coaches and wrestlers, for the past three or four years to get to that level so, very cool,” Activities Director at Kennedy High School, Aaron Stecker said. “It’s a big deal for the wrestling team, super proud of their coaches and the guys.”
“I think that a lot of the teams we were going against were surprised with our results, but we weren’t, we knew we had the capability the entire time.”
assistant wrestling coach, Nick LeClere said.
LeClere is confident that the team can keep up the good work for districts this Saturday, Feb. 9.
“Can we do it again for districts? That’d be perfect,” LeClere said.
