Rollipop is Poppin’
April 10, 2018
Seeking to fill my after-dinner chocolate cravings, my family and I decided to try out Iowa City’s new rolled ice cream shop, Rollipop.
At first glance the shop may not seem like anything special, but it is modern and clean, so I had no problem with it. Being Rollipop newbies, my family asked the workers how it all worked and they were happy to answer any questions we had. One worker explained to us that the ice cream starts out as a liquid, and is poured onto a freezing surface where the ice cream is mixed together with the ingredients for that flavor.
There were 10 different ice cream flavors to choose from, and after that you could choose up to three out of the 29 toppings. I decided to order the Cookie Monster ice cream with Reese’s Pieces and Nilla Wafers as my toppings. It was fun to watch the ice cream being made right in front of me, and it was even cooler to watch the employees roll the ice cream into the shapes.
The shop had customers when we first got there, and more flowed in and out until my family and I left. It’s safe to say the new rolled ice cream shop will continue to increase in popularity.
The only little problem I had with rolled ice cream, was that it is much harder to eat than regular ice cream because it almost falls out of the cup when trying to dig into the first bite. Since the ice cream is newly frozen too, it was almost too cold for my liking. However the taste was awesome, and definitely did not lack flavor or richness. After tasting my ice cream and comparing it with the Carmelicious and S’mores Galore flavors my family got, I would definitely recommend the Cookie Monster flavor.
Anyone who likes to try new desserts and types of ice cream should definitely give this place a try! Not to mention the new type of ice cream is great for artsy photos, too.
My overall ratings (out of five) for Rollipop are below.
- Taste: 5
