Crossing the Finish Line at State

The Kennedy men’s cross country team placed 3rd at the state qualifying meet this year qualifying them for state. This is the first time in 12 years that they have qualified. The team finished with 56 points, only 9 points away from Ames, the first place team.
Sr., Jackson Foley lead the team getting 5th place with so., Jacob Green only .05 seconds behind him placing 6th. Although qualifying times stop after 15th place, Kennedy qualified as a team meaning the 12 varsity runners competed at the state meet on Oct. 28.
Kennedy’s team is very lower-class-men dominated with 6 freshmen, 17 sophomores, 5 juniors, and 9 seniors, 6 varsity runners will be returning next year. They started the season unranked, but throughout the year they moved to the 11th spot in 4A.
Kennedy competed against 15 other teams on Oct. 28, in Fort Dodge. They placed 9th overall in the harsh weather conditions with the high of the day being only 45 degrees and the race starting at 10 a.m.
Green finished 16th with a time of 16:10 and Foley only 29 seconds behind in 34th.
Kennedy finished 180 points behind the first place team of Pleasant Valley and 97 points ahead of the last place team of Ames.
