Fall.

Leaves change color, the temperatures start to fall, and pumpkin spice flavored everything comes out.

Before staying inside becomes a norm in the winter, there are numerous local things to do in the fall weather.

Day Trips/Activities:

  • Visit a pumpkin patch. Bloomsbury Farm in Atkins, Iowa offers an array of family, friendly fun including a corn maze, hay rack rides, feeding goats, etc. A little closer to home is Bart’s Pumpkin Patch in Marion and Colony Pumpkin Patch in North Liberty.
  • Pick Apples. Take a trip down to Iowa City with your significant other or a couple of friends to pick the fall fruit and to walk through the seemingly never ending rows of apple trees.
  • Carve Pumpkins. Give your jack-o-lantern a unique look or paint a face to light up the front porch on Halloween.
  • Make Caramel Apples. A basic link is below to make the original caramel apples but there are numerous ways to making these apples your own such as putting candy or melting chocolate on them.
  • Try all of these activities with the pumpkin spice flavor. From lattes to Cheerios, get in the fall spirit by tasting all of versions of this mouth-watering flavor.
  • Have a haunted movie marathon. Stay in for a night with some popcorn and binge watch famous Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus or Beetlejuice.

Haunted Houses:

  • Circle of Ash- Central City, Iowa. The grand reopening of this event happened on October 7th, 2016 after it had been closed last year to relocate. This year the attraction features Pandemonium, Frightmare Forest, and Circle of Ash. $20
