Regional dance competition

All 20 of Kennedy’s varsity dance team travel to Minneapolis over the weekend to compete in the Spirit of American Regional Competition at the Mall of America.

The dance team competed against eleven teams around the region. They came in seventh in pom and eighth in jazz. The dance team also received the best sportsmanship award in the competition.

This season the team has competed in five competitions. They opened their competition season on October 17 at Spirit Spectacular. The competition was held at the University of Iowa. They placed first in both medium varsity pom and medium varsity jazz.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my team and how much we have improved from our first competition to our last,” Alli Maiers sr., said. “Not only have we improved our routines, but we’ve also grown closer as a team.”

Before the school year even began the Cougar dance team traveled to the Universal Dance Association camp at the University of Illinois. They competed in pom and got first place.

The dance team definitely has something to proud of this season, they placed at every competition and many of the dancers that participated in solos received an award.

Stormy Waldrep was one of the soloists that received awards through out the season.

“Whatever placement we got at awards whether it be first or last it didn’t matter as long as we came off the floor knowing we improved from the previous competition and did the best we could,” Waldrep said.
